For credit plans, the price is on the tool's smallest paid plan: plan price divided by the credits it includes, times the credits the clip takes. "Pay per second" tools have no plan; you are billed for what you generate. US dollars, monthly billing, before tax.
What this AI video cost calculator does
Every AI video tool sells credits and each prices them differently. One credit is worth a fifth of a cent on one platform and more than two cents on another, so a credit count on its own tells you nothing. This AI video cost calculator turns each tool's credits into dollars for the same clip. It covers 15 tools and 42 models, including Runway, Kling, Google Veo, Seedance, MiniMax, Luma and Pika, with every figure taken from the tool's own pricing page.

Credit plan or pay per second?
There are two ways to pay for AI video, and the table mixes both so you can compare them.
- Credit plan. You pay a monthly fee, get a bundle of credits and spend them inside the tool's app. It is the easy route: no setup, an editor and extra features. Unused credits are usually lost at renewal.
- Pay per second. You call the model through an API and are billed only for the seconds you generate. It is often cheaper for the same model and nothing expires, but you need an API key and some technical setup, or a third-party app that uses your key.
How to save AI credits
Draft first, render once
On Luma Ray3.14 a draft second costs 4 credits and a 1080p second costs 80. Work out the prompt in draft, then pay for the final resolution one time.
Drop one resolution step
Ray3.14 at 720p takes 20 credits a second against 80 at 1080p. Veo 3.1 Fast is $0.12 a second at 1080p and $0.30 at 4K. Most social video is watched at 720p or 1080p.
Test on the Fast or Lite model
Veo 3.1 Lite at 720p is $0.05 a second and standard Veo 3.1 is $0.40. That is eight test clips for the price of one.
Leave the audio off until the final take
On the Kling API a second of Kling 3.0 at 720p is $0.084 without audio and $0.126 with it. Add sound only to the version you will keep.
Generate one output at a time
Tools that offer two to four outputs per prompt charge for each one. Keep the batch at 1 until the prompt is right.
Match the clip length to how the model is sold
Models sold as fixed clips charge for the whole clip. On Runway, Seedance comes in 4-second clips, so a 5-second video is billed as two of them. Ask for 4 seconds and you pay half.
Know when your credits expire
Plan credits on Runway Standard, Runway Pro and Pika disappear at each renewal. Credits bought separately last longer. If you create in bursts, bought credits can cost less than a plan you only half use.
Common questions
How much does it cost to make an AI video?
For a 5-second 720p clip, prices on 4 October 2026 run from $0.10 on Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite through Grok Imagine to $7.68 on Seedance 2.0 Pro with Runway's smallest plan. In between: $0.30 on Luma Ray3.14 with the Plus plan and $1.44 on Runway Gen-4.5 with the Standard plan. Resolution matters most: 1080p on Luma Ray3.14 costs 4 times what 720p does.
What is the cheapest AI video generator?
Of the tools listed here, the lowest price for a 5-second 720p clip is Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite at $0.10, through Grok Imagine (xAI API). Cheapest is not the same as best: low-cost models are faster and less detailed than the flagship ones, so use them for tests and drafts.
Why does the same clip cost different amounts on different plans?
Bigger plans include more credits per dollar. On Runway a credit costs 2.4 cents on Standard and 1 cents on Max, so the same Gen-4.5 clip is $1.44 on one and $0.60 on the other. The saving is real only if you use the credits before they reset.
Do AI video credits expire?
Usually, yes. Runway Standard and Pro credits and Pika plan credits reset every billing period without rolling over. Runway Max carries over up to one month. Credits bought separately last longer: Runway's never expire and Pika top-ups last 365 days.
What is the difference between credits and pay per second?
With a credit plan you pay a monthly fee, get a bundle of credits and spend them on clips; unused credits are usually lost. With a pay-per-second API, such as Veo through the Gemini API or the Kling API, there is no plan: you are billed only for the seconds you generate, but you need an API key and some setup.
